Phoring - Kolkata Bengali Movie Bangla Movie Full Movie Watch Online
Once in a while, a film comes along that urges the critical mind to stop analyzing, sit back and enjoy the experience. It also reminds us that if a story is told with honesty and simplicity, one doesn't need big stars to make a brilliant film. Phoring, with all its purity and innocence, is exactly that kind of film
Phoring is not just a film, but a journey — from a gawky and confused adolescence to a complicated life of adulthood — where the imagination run wild, secret desires turn to scintillating dreams, hearts break and life teaches unforgettable lessons.
Ananda aka Phoring (Akash), struggles through all these in his growing-up years. The socially awkward teenager, his mind bursting with fantasies, feels confined in his hometown — a dying suburb in north Bengal. A physically abusive father, the burden of poverty and failure in school make his life a continuous misery. He takes respite in talking to god in his head or sharing forbidden thoughts with his best friend Lattu (Saurav). Still, the urge to break the shackles remains.
Freedom comes in the shape of a very beautiful history teacher, Doel Mitra (Sohini). Doel, a young Presidency graduate, enlivens the dowdy town and its residents. Seeing the creative mind behind Akash's dreamy eyes, she takes him under her wing. She becomes his window to the world. But, his changing body and mind also recognize her as an object of confused desire. So, while taking private tuitions in her house, instead of writing answers, Akash's eyes desperately try to get a glimpse of her bare legs; secretly touching her underwear, his body loses control; a small mention of her boyfriends makes him see red. But, suddenly, a chain of unfortunate sequences shatters Phoring's paradise. Doel disappears, leaving behind a cloud of suspicion and distrust. Following her trail, Phoring ends up in Kolkata and life forces him to grow up.
In this touching tale of forgotten innocence, director Indranil Roychowdhury, brings back a truckload of memories. In Phoring and Lattu's friendship, your whole childhood comes back to you — the teasing, the love-hate relationship, the unquestioned trust and unbreakable bond. The dialogues, classroom scenes, silly jokes, give you an uncanny sense of deja vu. Here, cinematographer Indranil Mukherjee does an absolutely brilliant job. The lazy life of small town, lush beauty of the Dooars, the busy streets of Kolkata come alive under his lens.
Dialogues give this film its soul. Phoring's conversations with 'god and his wife', who speak in bangal bhasha, the one-liners of Lattu or the other students' make this film what it is. However, the director has been extremely fortunate in his choice of actors. Akash with his speaking eyes, Lattu with his mischievous grin or Sohini with her effortless sensuality and freshness take the film to another level. Sankar Debnath as Phoring's abusive dad also deserves a special mention. Last but not the least, Timir Biswas' melodious rendition of Rabi Thakur's Aaj jemon kore gaiche akash makes the cinematic experience complete.
You can't but be thankful to the director for giving a forgotten slice of childhood back to us. Go watch this film; its purity will bowl you over.
