Teen Yaari Kotha Kolkata Bangla Bengali Full Movie Movie Review: Long before "Delhi Belly" was even conceived and the nation went ga-ga over the way sexuality and slangs were handled in contemporary Indian cinema, two directors from Bengal — Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha — directed " Teen Yaari Katha". A coming-of-age movie, "TYK" is a film about male bonding that unabashedly explores the world of secret male fantasies that many are familiar with but are apprehensive about discussing in public. Going by the film's content, it could well have flaunted the tag of being a pathbreaking adult sex comedy had there not been the six-year itch in its release. Yet even today, when so many movies sometimes pretentiously or otherwise are attempting to explore adult themes, "TYK" doesn't lose its relevance or seem stale. Therein lies the success of the makers, who had the guts to think much ahead of the times.
If the director duo needs a pat on the back, so does writer Anindya Bose. Part of what makes the movie so realistic is the strength of its dialogues that are real, sometimes bordering on being a little uncomfortably crude. But then, that's the way many guys in the suburbs, who are pushed to the fringes, would talk. So being prudish about the use of 'p' words wouldn't make sense if one decides to watch this movie in the first place.
What also makes the film really engaging is the stellar performances of ensemble cast. If autorickshaw driver Rudranil is humorous when he strings a song in praise of his Tollywood hero whom he worships every evening, Parambrata is bang-on as the fumbling job-hunter who is in love with Gargi but has reservations about the way she is going about with her career moves to enter the glamour world. Newspaper hawker Sujan is delightfully entertaining. Check out the opening scene where he buys an adult magazine just for the titillating photos or the one where he drills a hole into the wall so that he/Rudra can take a peek at how June and Saswata get intimate at night! June, as the newly-married wife of Saswata, is the perfect fit for the role of the sexy boudi. Gargi too does a decent job and perhaps, it would be a good idea for contemporary makers to cast her more often in Bengali movies. Considering that this was among her first big screen outings, Rimjhim too has done a decent job. Special mention ought to be made to Gita De as well.
Teen Yaari Kotha Kolkata Bangla Bengali Full Movie Yet if you take pride in being a prude and are looking at very refined form of humour, this movie might not really be up your street. The one-liners or the double meaning dialogues might seem a little crass. Go for this movie only if you are ready to leave your inhibitions behind. The young Turks, who literally started their filmi career with this movie, have long established themselves as actors to reckon with. Some like Parambrata, Saswata, Paoli (who has a fleeting visual presence in the movie!) have already had much talked-about Bollywood releases. Tollywood itself has changed so much but it's a fact that perhaps, the delay in its release is more of a blessing in disguise. A lot many in the movie-going audience will now be able to accept "TYK" more than before. For them, even if it isn't the "Dil Chahta Hai" of Tollywood, it still has enough to offer as food for thought.
